Hello everyone! I’m writing this post to inform you of an amazing opportunity for authors from Eastern and Southern Africa. Namely; Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, eSwatini/Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Sara Megibow is a superstar agent representing best-selling authors such as Casey McQuiston and Rebecca Roanhorse. And maybe even, YOU! She is vice president at KT Literary Agency, an American literary agency based in Colorado. KT represents me and I can tell you that they are truly great and go out of their way to ensure you feel cared for. I’m grateful to be a part of their impressive roster of authors. Check out their website https://ktliterary.com/.
Literary agents sell your work to publishing houses, like Harper Collins and Simon and Schuster, and negotiate contracts on your behalf. They also sell the international rights for your works so you can be published in different languages. They advocate for you and help you bring your stories to a wider audience. Manuscripts (in publishing they call your unpublished book a manuscript, often abbreviated to ms) can be any genre or sub-genre and already published, self-published or not yet published.
You should send a query letter and the first 10 pages of your manuscript to saraquery@ktliterary.com. Query letters are very specific things and you must research how to write one. They should not be longer than 350 words or so and include the main hook of your story (the core storyline), genre, word count and a brief biography. I recommend checking out jerichowriters.com and this blog post is very good as well https://janefriedman.com/query-letters/. Also, your manuscript should be formatted properly. Make sure it is font size 12, Times New Roman or Arial with double spacing. Include a cover page with your name, email, the title of the manuscript and the word count. Again, you can Google manuscript formatting or check out jerichowriters.com.
I am also available if you have any questions. Email me through the contact page on this site or send an email to michaelawoelk@gmail.com.
Good Luck!
